What if it rains?
We can often get the trip in with light rain and little wind. High winds and rain would be reason to reschedule the trip. If we could not find a suitable new date your charter price would be refunded. The trip may also need to be rescheduled for rough sea conditions due to high winds predicted. We would contact you as soon as possible about any weather concerns.
How should we dress?
Please check the local hourly forecast for your trip time and dress appropriately for a boat. High heals are not recommended. If it’s chilly the new Mariner has inside cabin space and heat. For a celebration of life The Navesink Queen has a larger interior space with more heat and a 2nd deck that is open air with no heat.
What can we place in the water?
You may only place natural biodegradable items into the sea. Natural flowers etc. Plastic and artificial items are not permitted. Please also keep in mind that most often the funeral home returns your loved one to you in a small box or urn. Inside the box or urn is a plastic bag with the ashes inside. Be mindful not to place the plastic bag in the water. Our crew can help you with this.
Flowers ?
It is common practice to place natural flowers in the water after your loved ones ashes have been set to sea. You are welcome bring your own flowers or ask us to purchase them for you.
Who performs the service?
Most times the family does. You may also bring someone from your place or worship. If desired, we can arrange for a someone to assist you with a service based on the Naval Burial at sea. If available, the fee for this service is $100. You may also opt for no service at all. People of all religious and cultural backgrounds are welcome.
Where can I get a biodegradable urn?

What time of the day can we take the trip?
We have several 2-hour time slots for this service. Most of them are in the mornings. Other times may also be arranged. A Sunset 3 hour time slot may also be available. Please call us for details 732-337-9292
What if we don’t want to go on the trip?
We understand that not all people enjoy the sea. If it was your loved ones wish to have their ashes scattered at sea, and no one can attend, we would be happy to do that for you per your loved ones wishes. Please call us for the unattended burial at sea price. 732-337-9292
Can we bring food and drink aboard?
You are welcome to bring finger foods. (no fried chicken or anything greasy or messy- no popcorn or potato chips) BYOB may be permissible.
What about music?
Our boats feature blue tooth capable sound systems. You are welcome to stream your loved one’s favorite songs. We may also be able to arrange to play them via our audio streaming accounts.
Can we have a bagpiper?
Yes. You can have them pipe your guests aboard or join us for the trip. Let us know if you need any help finding a bagpiper.
Can we fish off the boat?
We don’t really offer fishing but if your loved one had a passion for fishing you are welcome to bring one fishing pole for ceremony and try your hand at catching. Be sure to bring GULPS or other synthetic baits. We might be able to sneak in one drift and catch a fluke. Catch and release or take home in your own cooler (legal size) and fillet at home.
